Music Break: "Stand by Me"
Playing For Change | Music Around the World

Mark Johnson, founder, Playing for Change:

From the award-winning documentary, "Playing For Change: Peace Through Music", comes the first of many "songs around the world" being released independently. Featured is a cover of the Ben E. King classic by musicians around the world adding their part to the song as it travelled the globe.

Playing For Change is a movement to connect the world through music.

The act of playing music with people of different cultures, religions, economics and politics is a powerful statement. It shows that we can find ways of working together and sharing our experiences with one another in a positive way. Music has the power to break down the walls between cultures, to raise the level of human understanding.

Anonymous you seem reasonable so I'm happy to have you comment here and join the discussion. You are off topic on this one with your link. I'll respond to this one but, respectfully, I'm not going to let the discussion go off topic on every post.

Your link leads to an article criticizing the Obamas for entertaining at the White House during tough economic times. You must be young or either conveniently forgetful of the Ronald Reagan Presidency. The Reagans came in and opened up the White House to lavish entertainment during the horrible recession in the early 80's. They were roundly criticized but defended themselves by saying it was important to show the nation and the world that we were optimistic about a turnaround. I agreed with the Reagan's that it was an important image and likewise it would send the wrong message for the Obama White House to turn out the lights and hunker down.

Hmm so 2 wrongs make a right.I get it.

It was arrogant the and it's arrogant now.
That reminds me when I was little and got in trouble for something,my defense to my mother would be "My Brother did it"
So then we would both get in trouble.

Oh and as far as the post goes I thought it was about "Change" but obvioulsy it isn't just politics as usual. Just different players and different Wall Street firms and coorporations.

Geeze Louise Anonymous! This post is about music and how it can bring us together. You seem to have some sour grapes going on. Lighten up. Life is good.

One more difference is we have a Whitehouse demonizing corporations for doing the same exact thing.
I guess the only good wall street firm is one who is a pocket liner for the democrats and a good corporation is one that works for them, aka GE.
But keep continuing to defend these idiots because more people are finally coming out of their November coma and actually seeing a bit of reality, although many of were never in that coma.

No, it's more like both were correct. If you want markets to be confident and if you want consumer confidence to rise, you can't sit in the dark at pretend the world is coming to an end. You have to show confidence and optimism. It certainly is a change from the Bush White House. They rarely entertained or opened up the people's house for cultural events.

Okay Anonymous. This is a music post. If you want to rant on about Democrats, open up a blog and post away give us the link and we'll be happy to come discuss your concerns.

Nancy they always try to hide behind "anonymous" with no face and no name and they always try to change the subject. I'm always open for a lively and diverse debate but only on the topic at hand. Anyone that wants to discuss a different topic can open a blog and have their say, just as you and I have.

We'll be brought together alright. We need to be prepared because by the time the lunatics are done with us all we will have is each other. So yes kumbya is a good thing.
I don' have a name My new president made me anonymous because I don't matter.

Conrad Strong said...

Are you sure that you're not anonymous because you don't want your boss, co-workers, neighbors, friends and relatives to know your opinions? Nothing wrong with that if that's what's going on.

My boss is a democrat who voted for McCain(being he is more of a democrat)although he did vote for Bush after his taxes wnt sky high after Clinto's first term,And my neighbors hate the fact that their high taxes are going to be higher so they are convinced how they will be voting come 2010 but they can't tell theri sons because they have been brainwashed by theri colleges. They have to find out for themselves when they have actual bills to pay.
